From time to time we offer volunteer placements to help support project work at Hull History Centre.
Volunteer placements might involve helping us to enhance our existing indexes and catalogues, clean and repack collections, digitise material, and undertake research for audience engagement activities.
Any available volunteer opportunities will be advertised on this page when available. At such times, we will provide a short application form and contact details for you to register your interest.
Please note that we cannot accommodate requests for volunteer placements outside of advertised opportunities.
Current Opportunities
Hull University Archives (Students)
In April 2024 we launched a new volunteer programme to support the development of the University of Hull's own archival heritage. Available projects include digitisation work, preservation repackaging, collections tasks (such as indexing scrapbooks), and research to support the creation of audience engagement content.
The programme will run until 2027 and is open to University of Hull students at any stage of their studies. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from anybody else. The programme is managed via the University of Hull's Library Volunteers scheme.
Please email libraryvolunteers@hull.ac.uk to register your interest.
Hull University Archives (Alumni)
In January 2025 we launched the Centenary Archives Photo Project in collaboration with the University of Hull's Alumni and Development Team. The project aims to digitise a vast collection of photographic negatives created by the University of Hull since the 1950s. All alumni of the University of Hull are welcome to apply, no matter whether you graduated yesterday or 40 years ago! This project requires onsite working so you will need to be local to Hull.
Please contact alumni@hull.ac.uk for further information.
