Rugby League World Cup Events
To mark the Rugby League World Cup competition matches being
held in Hull, the Hull History Centre is hosting a weekend of back
to back Rugby League events:
Rugby League “Show and Tell”
Saturday 16th November 9.30am - 12noon
invited to bring along their treasured rugby league memorabilia and
talk to a Rugby League historian about their items. They can
also view the centre's display of items about Rugby League and
Hull and take part in a question and answer session with Rugby
League VIP guests - with Alan
Burwell, Colin Hutton and Johnny
Whiteley all confirmed for the event.
Refreshments will be provided.
Fans are encouraged to record their memories of the
earliest game they went to, their favourite player and most
memorable match - these will be placed onto a Stories Board
for fellow fans of all ages to read.
BFI's Mitchell and Kenyon Early Rugby
Sunday 17th November 2pm - 4pm at
the Ferens Art Gallery - Live Arts Space
This is a
rare opportunity to view vintage film footage including scenes of
our Rugby teams in Edwardian times. These films, on loan to
Hull History Centre from the BFI (British Film Institute), offer a
remarkable and fascinating insight into the social history of Rugby
League, through film clips of the earliest surviving footage
featuring Edwardian Hull. A silent film pianist will perform
an accompanying musical score.
Please call into the Box Office & Tourist
Information Centre, City Hall or call 01482 300300 to
book your free ticket.
Although the History Centre holds some Rugby
League records, it is looking to fans to help fill some of the gaps
- especially matchday programmes - so if you are lookign to clear
out the loft or cupboard please bear us in mind!
