Child dressed as Henry VIIIThe Hull History Centre currently offers two sessions for schools. These are designed to encourage the development of key skills whilst bringing historical periods to life through literacy, geography and citizenship cross-curricular links.

The sessions are:

Henry’s Hull (2 hours; KS1/2)

  • Investigate original Tudor documents
  • Discover the effect Henry VIII’s reign had on Hull
  • Decipher Tudor handwriting in our reading challenge
  • Practise your own Tudor handwriting with a quill and ink to create a scroll
  • supporting resource on the MyLearning website for teachers 

Hull at War (2 hours; KS2)

  • Investigate a top secret wartime incident in Hull using our documents
  • Use newspapers from the time to compile a news broadcast
  • Step into the clothes of wartime characters to be interviewed and read the news
  • supporting resource on the MyLearning website for teachers 

To ensure appropriate staff cover and all necessary arrangements for the session have been agreed we ask that all school bookings are confirmed at least four weeks in advance. Please contact us with any questions you have about our schools programme.
